Native Plants
Garden Design Strategy
Evergreen shrubs and groundcovers (manzanita, ceanothus, rhamnus) create the garden’s structure. These foundational plants serve as a backdrop for ribbons or pockets of seasonal color (epilobium, achillea, eriogonum). Grasses add movement and texture to the garden. I select a variety of plant forms, textures, foliage, and flower color to create year-long interest.
Benefits of Native Plants
-
Native plants are adapted to the California water cycle--summer dry and winter wet
-
Native plants provide beneficial habitat and support local ecology
-
Native plants describe the place we live
Landscape Elements
Landscape elements such as flagstone paths and patio, arbors, dry creeks and water features provide structure and functionality to the garden.
