Native Plants
Garden Design Strategy

Evergreen shrubs and groundcovers (manzanita, ceanothus, rhamnus) create the garden’s structure. These foundational plants serve as a backdrop for ribbons or pockets of seasonal color (epilobium, achillea, eriogonum). Grasses add movement and texture to the garden. I select a variety of plant forms, textures, foliage, and flower color to create year-long interest.

Benefits of Native Plants
  • Native plants are adapted to the California water cycle--summer dry and winter wet

  • Native plants provide beneficial habitat and support local ecology

  • Native plants describe the place we live

Landscape Elements

Landscape elements such as flagstone paths and patio, arbors, dry creeks and water features provide structure and functionality to the garden.

Sample Landscape Plans

Each CAD landscape drawing includes a detailed scaled base map, space function and hardscape plan, planting plan, Plant Master slide presentation, and installation notes.
